OpenAI Launches a Web Browser
OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, have launched Atlas. It's a web browser with a bunch of AI stuff built into it. It will make some people much faster at their jobs, most likely making it so that other people will lose their jobs.
It is surprising to us that Google Chrome does not yet have much better AI features in it. If Google Chrome ends up getting disrupted by OpenAI that will be ironic. It was Google that kicked off the key architecture that has led to modern chatbots (the transformer architecture).
It's worth noting, though, that many companies have tried to unseat Chrome as the king of browsers. They have all failed. Also, OpenAI's browser is built on top of Chromium, the open source shell that Chrome itself is based on and which Google maintains.
Many people will use this AI browser to accelerate the creation of AI slop for their jobs or for social media.
If you try out Atlas, let us know what you think about it in the comments.
