Standing your ground when things get scary.

Against a drunk guy with a knife?

Hell no, I'd run.

So courage isn't ALWAYS standing your ground?

Right. Only when it's worth it.

Worth it how?

Like protecting someone or fighting for what's right.

Someone jumps in a river to save a drowning dog. Brave?

Definitely.

What if they can't swim?

Then they're an idiot.

So jumping in without knowing how to swim isn't courage—it's stupidity?

Then courage requires knowing what you're doing?

I guess, yeah.

A millionaire's kid quits the job his dad gave him in protest. Brave?

Could be.

But he’s still rich with a millionaire dad. Where's the courage if there's no real risk?

So courage needs both—knowing what you're doing AND real danger?

That sounds right.

So how about when HE3 defended you on TikTok? She knew she might lose her job. But she did it anyway.

That was courage dude... and messed up that she lost her job.

Stick to the topic at hand HE2. So it was courage because she KNEW what might happen, right? If she didn't know the risk, it wouldn't be courage?

That's what makes it courage, right? But also like...it was odd to fire her for that.

From the notes I have left by the previous manager, that wasn't all she was fired for. Back to the topic at hand. Bar fight. Guy insults you. Walking away — brave or cowardly?

Cowardly. You're backing down.

What if the guy is huge and you walk away to protect your drunk friend from getting involved?

Oh. Then walking away is brave.

Same action, different reasons. How do we know which is which?

You look at WHY they walked away?

But cowards always have excuses. Heroes sometimes have terrible reasons. A soldier retreats—strategy or fear?

How can you tell?

Exactly. The drunk with the knife from before—you run. Smart or scared?

Smart, because fighting is pointless.

But you're also afraid of being stabbed, right?

The knife scares you, so you leave.

The coward also leaves because he's scared. You both do the exact same thing for the exact same reason. What makes you wise and him a coward?

Is the person who never feels fear even capable of courage? Can you be brave if you're never scared?

So courage NEEDS fear. But too much fear is cowardice. The right amount in the right situation for the right reason... but who decides what's right?
