If a perfectly good, all-powerful God exists, why does a child suffer for no apparent reason? What kind of answer could explain that without making the suffering seem acceptable?
The problem is not only whether suffering has a cause. It is whether a morally adequate reason could reconcile it with perfect goodness and power.
